Watney was a studio-wide effort to challenge the preconceptions of form, installations, fabrication and more specifically waffle assemblies as sound structural systems. The project began with a charrette in which everyone presented various forms created through digital means.
The mass was split up in 21 chunks for assembly purposes. Each chunk used a two way waffle system that was looser as the chunks got higher and was directed to the central void. The chunks were then attached to one another through end-caps and wherever the waffle was exposed, it was covered with a transparent polypropylene skin that accentuates the curvilinear surfaces of the mass.
